S and S: compatibility

S · S

The calmest pair: reliability, patience and mutual support. The danger is stagnation and a reluctance to raise difficult topics.

Two Ss understand each other without words: both value stability, keep their promises, listen and don't push. Such a pair can work steadily and without conflict for years. The flip side is avoiding anything that disturbs the peace: change, arguments, unpleasant conversations. Problems aren't solved but endured; decisions are postponed because nobody wants to take the initiative first. An S and S pair benefits from an outside push: firm deadlines, a manager with D or a colleague with I who will stir things up.

What they have in common

  • Reliability and consistency
  • Patience and the ability to listen
  • Loyalty to the team and the familiar way of doing things

Where friction arises

  • Nobody starts changes or takes the initiative
  • Disagreement is hushed up, resentment builds
  • Decisions are postponed while each waits for the other to decide

Tips for the Steadiness style (S)

  • Set deadlines for each other: without them nothing moves
  • Agree to name problems out loud, even small ones
  • Take turns being “the one who decides”
